Can We Now Do Something Meaningful About Gun Violence?

Regarding yesterday’s assassination attempt, I pray that this was a last failed attempt on any American citizen and not the first shot in a second civil war.

With that now said, for those claiming that God had a hand in protecting the former president, what about the woman sitting in back of him that was killed? Was God with Hitler or Fidel Castro when either survived numerous assassinationn attempts? I don't think so. Why didn't God intervene at Columbine or Parkland? Please don't assign anything of this nature to The Almighty; this was a human action in defiance of God.

I dislike Trump but I believe in the ballot not the bullet. Instead of prematurely claiming to know thhe gunman’s motivation, let’s consider part of Robert F. Kennedy’s speechmade the day after  Martin Luther King, Jr. was assassinated in 1968:

"Whenever any American's life is taken by another American unnecessarily - whether it is done in the name of the law or in the defiance of law, by one man or a gang, in cold blood or in passion, in an attack of violence or in response to violence - whenever we tear at the fabric of life which another man has painfully and clumsily woven for himself and his children, the whole nation is degraded."

Can we now to do something meaningful about gun violence or is it still premature to do so?
