As the world watches the United States of America tear itself down from the inside, there are no reasons to think America can ever fully come back from this burgeoning second Civil War. An extremely divided country mired in lies and conspiracy theory; desperately trying to cling to it’s founding ideals with an unhinged President. A wildly narcissistic President with no apparent morals or ethics, racist, elitist and relentless. The essence of an autocrat.
The world sees little difference between the apparent insurrection at the U.S. Capitol building on January 6th and the early days of the first American Civil War. As videos surfaced of the chaos inside the Capitol, Confederate flags were being carried through the halls of the sacred democratic institution. The ghosts of the Lost Cause were smiling down on the attempted coup. Donald Trump has erased history and taken America back to the brink of Fort Sumter in April 1861. With the real possibility of a quasi Fort Sumter being the upcoming inauguration of President Joe Biden. It turns out hypersonic-partisan politics that prey on one side’s unresolved end to the Civil War and distrust of the government are extremely detrimental to a constitution based republic.
As U.S. Republicans terrify Americans with talk of “radical left” destroying their country with Americans living under communist rule, with no rights and freedoms; they continue to foment “the Big Lie” that the election was stolen and Donald Trump won the election in a landslide. Outside of the American bubble of propaganda, anyone can see the obvious ploy of a wanna-be autocrat. Trump is working from the textbooks of some of the most infamous dictators and autocrats in history. Trump has visited and praised some of these tyrants. Seeking and taking advice from Vladimir Putin on how to control the masses and stay in power. Anyone who denies this fact needs to answer the question:
“Why is the President of the United States holding secret meetings and phone calls with the leader of America’s mortal enemy of the last 75 years?”...(who happens to be running his own successful autocracy)
As much as Trump would like to emulate the respect and fear of Putin’s power; he is not a highly intelligent; multi, multi billionaire, ex KGB leader who strikes deathly fear into the hearts of dissenters and political opponents. He is a wanna-be, tin pot dictator, failed businessman and pathological liar.
In reality it’s not the “radical left” Americans need to be worried about. Ironically Trump has tapped into the “radical right” to take up his cause and “save America”. Trump does not really care about his supporters, they are tools he uses to help substantiate his lies and conspiracy theories. More importantly, supporters are dollars in his pocket; with Trump gleefully grifting his supporters and American taxpayers for all the money he can before he leaves office. It’s never been about America, the American people; it’s always been about Donald John Trump.
Over the last four years, culminating in his current coup attempt; Trump has orchestrated the single greatest challenge to the American democratic rule of law and the constitution that supports the rights and liberties of the American people. He has had help. There are collaborators. Steven Miller has driven his white nationalist agenda; Mitch McConnell and William Barr have enabled his autocratic nose snubbing of the constitution and rule of law. The Rupert Murdoch media empire acting as State TV and newspaper, pushing his conspiracy theories with joyous glee. Tucker Carlson, Sean Hannity and Laura Ingraham acting as propaganda ministers for the Trump Administration. Every word out of their mouths carefully calculated to target Trump’s MAGA base and no one else. Almost every Republican politician has shamelessly lost their moral and ethical compass and follow Trump’s lunacy like sheep being led to a slaughter. History judges leaders like Trump, but history also judges the collaborators.
What’s being rendered from these loyal sycophants is dignity, pride and their ability to do their patriotic duty to the U.S. Constitution and the people of America.
More importantly, Trump has poisoned the concept of democracy of the minds of millions of American people. He has made the Democratic party the enemy of his people. Trump has acted as a mirror to the United States and reflected the ugliness of it’s racial history right back at the American public. Trump has acted as a microphone of dissent against the established rule of law and the American Constitution.
Trump has put his own Republican party at a crossroads. As some Republican politicians and prominent Republican influencers break from Trump as if somehow his Capitol siege was finally the breaking point for them; many stand strong with Trump, choosing to support his “big lie” and pander to the MAGA base. The widening gap between the traditional Republicans and the Trump hard liners grows exponentially every day America get closer the Biden inauguration on January 20th. If the party does spilt, America would be poised to participate in a three party presidential election in 2024. Trump could then capitalize on his base of MAGA supporters and officially start the QAnon party. With millions of supporters and boatloads of money behind him; Trump may not be successful, but the votes he would garner would certainly disrupt any Republican presidential candidate’s chances of being elected.
America is cursed with historically systemic racial and socio-economic issues on it’s people. These issues have been bubbling under the fabric of America; occasional bursts of hopeful change have erupted only to lose momentum and get pushed back underground over time. Seventy four million Americans think Donald Trump was steering the country in the right direction? Forty seven percent of American voters chose Trump? The question is how many of those Trump voters in 2020 are traditional Republicans forced to vote Republican to be true to their party?
It could take decades for the United States to recover from the devastation of the Trump reign. What does the end result of the recovery look like? Will the world still recognize America as it once was; the democratic leader of the free world, willing help anyone at any cost?
The heart and soul of what America was built on and has fought so hard to maintain is at stake.
Godspeed Joe Biden.
