The fascinating story of how a reference librarian at the Nebraska Historical Society tracked down a long-forgotten Civil War veteran’s story. He will now be remembered. He was unknown when killed in a railway accident 130 years ago and was buried in an unmarked grave.
That librarian, upon finding out what happened to him, finding his grave, and finally honouring this Union soldier is both fascinating and touching.
He was born in Prussia, immigrated to the United States, served in an Illinois Regiment in the Civil War, ended up in Lincoln, Nebraska, and was lost to history until recently.
