It mirrors Trump nationalist revisionism.
The monument is revering a freeman, Heyward Shepherd, for having been a "good ****er" for staying true to the South during Browns Rebellion at Harpers Ferry.
I tried to get Congresswoman Donna Edward’s office to ask the National Park Service to remove it a couple years ago but I think it's nuanced message was lost on her staffer.
Why not replace all the confederate monuments instead with tributes to the two thirds of confederate soldiers who deserted the Confederacy or to those southerners who refused to take up arms against the Union, or to the poor black slaves?
