I read a good post from a fellow Texan at forwardprogressives.com about how to deal with Civil War cause reality deniers.
With the white supremacists coming out of the woodwork to protect monuments honoring the protectors of the slave system, I thought I'd share his ammunition, an official State of Texas document, on DKos. You can be armed with the truth when your uninformed relative spouts nonsense over the holidays about "southern heritage" or when a friend or coworker tries to rationalize keeping the monuments in place.
He provided a link to the Texas’ Declaration of Causes from the Texas State Archives, so I am passing it forward.
The 3rd and 4th paragraphs lay the argument out. The disgusting ignorance of our forefathers is stated in the 10th paragraph. Really sick.
I imagine the other slave economy states had similar declarations.
Many of us were taught in school that the war was fought over generic "states' rights" and the cause was noble to preserve our "way of life."
An evil way of life…
Anyone who thinks it's ok to keep monuments to honor this sickness in this day and age is just wrong, and should be called out.
