I write this as a result of a tweet that I think is worth sharing:

For context, here are the total deaths for America’s three bloodiest wars, according to this wikipedia article

Civil War  (where we fought ourselves    750,000

World War II                                                405,399

World War I                                                 116,516

The total of those three wars:  1,271,915, or only marginally more than our domestic gun deaths in the last 36 years.

Or to put it another way, the War in Vietnam ripped this country apart as no other conflict since the Civil War.  It’s total deaths were 58,209.

That means our total domestic guns deaths in the last 36 years were 12.88 Vietnams, or to put it another way, on average our domestic gun deaths each year are 1/3 of the deaths in Vietnam.

As Pete Seeger wrote and sang, When will we ever learn?

Peace?
